Sažetak

Nowadays more and more attention is paid to waste and its disposal as well as to what is produced in health institutions. Medical institutions are the major producers of hazardous waste, which due to the high risk of developing infections represents an important group among the hazardous waste. This waste is generated in the protection of human health and is a necessary and useful product of general social activities in whose production all users of health care are involved. Pursuant to the Ordinance on medical waste management, procedures of sterilized cultured microorganisms are conducted in accordance with professional standards. The aim of the study was to determine the validity of dealing with infectious, hazardous medical waste, as well as to its proper disposal.
Better knowledge of the dangers and consequences of exposure to the harmful impact of medical waste can help to improve its management, as well as planning and taking appropriate measures in human health protection.
