Sažetak

In protected areas in Croatia, vegetable production level is average when compared to European countries, but below average when compared to other Mediterranean countries. In protected areas, vegetable production is labour and capital intensive, but can generate significantly more favourable financial effects than the production of field crops. Of the three analysed vegetable crops (tomatoes, peppers and slicing cucumbers) pepper production is not only commercially most important but also yields greater profit. Achieved profit is in the paper presented as a contribution margin ratio of variable costs and sales revenue. The example of indoor vegetable producers in Koprivnica-Križevci County demonstrates that the return on investment in greenhouses is seven years Positive net present value and internal rate of return greater than applied discount rate indicate the justification of investment in this form of agricultural production.
