Sažetak

Mulch films are increasingly used in intensive vegetable production. Mulch cover on the soil controls weed development and has positive effects on physical and chemical characteristics of the soil. During the summer period of cultivation, asparagus requires intensive weed control. Mechanical weed protection is applied in the initial stages of stem growth, while herbicides are commonly used in the later stages of cultivation.
The aim of the research was to study the effects of different mulch films in the summer period of asparagus growing. The effect of mulching was researched according to the number, thickness and length of stems growing in summer. The second aim was to prove the possibility of weed control with mulch covers. The collected data was analysed by statistical analysis of variance (ANOVA) with LSD values at the significance level of P>0.05. Statistically significant effects of mulch on the diameter and length of stems were found in ‘Stamm AO 1.204-87’ variety. Significantly negative effects of mulch with black crepe paper film were detected on the diameter and length of summer stems of the 'Apollo’ variety. With the application of the tested mulch materials it is possible to control weed growing in asparagus successfully.
