Frequency of appearane of phytopathogenic fungi on nectarine after picking

Sažetak

The number of fruits attacked by phytopathogenic fungi was determined on nectarine fruits (Prunus persica var. nectarina cv. Fantasia) that were stored for two weeks on 0° C and three days at room temperature. The most frequent pathogen was Monilia laxa (56.95 % of infected fruits), whereas Monilia fructigena and Rhizopus stolonifer attacked 8.33% of fruits. A smaller share of fruits (6.94%) was attacked by a pathogen which couldn’t be identified based on visual symptoms. A total of 80.56% of fruits were infected. The obtained results show that phytopathogenic fungi can make a significant damage on nectarine fruits after harvest. Monilia laxa can surive successfully for two weeks on 0° C, while M. fructigena and R. stolonifer are significantly less resistant. Considering the prohibition of using postharvest fungicides for fighting phytopathogenic fungi, the only possibility is introducing alternative treatments (heat treatments, antagonistic yeasts and alike). However, their efficiency and the effect they make on quality of fruits should be studied before their commercial application.
