Sažetak
The cattle breeding programme in Croatia started in 1974. The central part of the programme is production of bulls, is because the selection paths sire-son and mother-son contribute to the highest genetic progress. For bulls production, the best cows (bulls mothers) and the semen of the best bulls from our population in the world (bull sires) are used. Matching the parents of new generation bulls is carried out systematically, within circles. So far the directed insemination has been done for 21 circles and produced 1127 male calves for testing. Data concerning the number of bulls'mothers in every circle and share of a specific genome of bulls fathers in that time are given. ln the last circle 62,4% of bulls' mother are from domestic genomes, 21,1 % are the daughters of bulls'fathers from eartier circles, 7,6 % originale from Germany and 8,9 % from Austria. The present system of production of new bulls is very important for our cattle breeding because it largerly contributes to genetic progress of the simmental breed.
