Sažetak
The starting point for this research is the unfavourable reputation and status of the general didactics (in the academic community and the current reforms of education), as well as its decreasing importance in teacher education, as a result of poor performance achieved in international tests of students’ knowledge (in Germany and other countries that have been influenced by the German didactic tradition in education) and the arguments based on the fact that the conducted empirical studies indicate the uselessness of didactic models. Considering the above problem, the aim of this study is the empirical testing of usability of the three major models of general didactics, wherein the term implies the practical usefulness of the theory (Zierer, Wernke, 2013). This will enable the verification of the metric characteristics of the instrument (questionnaire containing didactic models assessment scales) developed by German researchers (Werner, Wernke and Zierer, 2015) on the Croatian sample, which will allow for further adaptation of the questionnaire for its use on larger samples. The results of this study support the arguments that challenge the prevailing view in contemporary publications according to which didactic models are unpractical and useless. These results also open the way for a discussion on the status and future of general didactics in the context of standardization of education, i.e. for answering the question whether the models that the current reforms of education promote (empirical research on teaching and education standards) should replace general didactics.
