Sažetak
The library of Archeological Museum keeps the book I dieci Iibri dell'architetura di M. Vitruvio, tradotti e commendati di Mons. Daniel Barbaro in Venetia, appresso Francesco de Francesco Senese, e Giovanni Chriger Alemano Compagni MDLXVII. The distinguished Croatian architect and sculptor, called Raguseo afterrn his Dubrovnik roots, and his son Ignazio, who also had the habit of using his family name signed their names inside and thus identified themselves as the owners of the book. This shows that the 17 and 18c Croatian artists who had moved from Dubrovnik to Trogir and there become famous for the Baroque buildings designed and constructed either by them of by their descendants on the islands and in the cities of central Dalmatia also made use of classical literature on architecture. ln this Vitruvius book Ivan Macanović thus made a sketch of a Baroque church facade he had later used in his design of the parish church of the chief town of the island of Brač. The same sketch was also found among the arhival materials previously published by the authorof this study. The preliminary design, the final design and the building itself, as well as the other documents on the construction of the church in all testify to the continuity of the same architectural idea which penains to the 18c and manifests the traits of provincial, Dalmatian Baroque, so characteristic of and his circle of colleagues. Since few sketches or designs by Croatian architects of the Baroque have been preserved, these two examples are of vital importance to the study of their work.
