Sažetak
Waste from medical institutions in small quantities causes adverse effects to health and environmental consequences. It is, therefore, collected in the prescribed manner, processed and stored later to preserve the environment from pollution. The working ability of employees engaged in the thermal treatment of infectious waste depends on a number of factors (risks, hazards and efforts). They affect the physical condition of employees and working environment (microclimate, microbiological purity of the air) and the requirements of the job.
The aim of this study was to monitor the presence of selected microbiological parameters in autoclaved waste. Research was conducted on the health status of employees working in the processing of medical waste. In this study, swabs of autoclaved waste were taken, and the collected samples were processed in a microbiological laboratory according to methods of control of hygiene and in accordance with the prescribed standards.
After incubation and the counting of grown colonies, several genera of bacteria and fungi were identified on microbiological substrates. Gram negative bacteria were not proved and the most often present were Gram positive bacteria of Bacillus spp in families of the fungus Aspergillus spp. and Penicillium spp.Based on the study, it can be concluded that infectious waste is treated in accordance with the Ordinance on medical waste management. Microorganisms were not isolated in most of the tested samples, and in the rest of the analyzed samples there were bacteria and fungi, which are indicators of the presence of their spores in the air within the working premises of medical institutions.
