Sažetak

A modification of the flameless atomic absorption spectrophotometric method for the determination of mercury is described. Mercury compounds were combusted by the oxygen-flask method and the samples containing mercury in trace concentrations were combusted in a quartz tube. Combustion products were absorbed and concentrated in KMnO4-H2SO4 solution. Mercury was reduced with stannous chloride and driven by an air current through an absorption tube placed in the light path of an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Absorbance is linearly proportional to mercury concentration in the range 12.3-1000 ng Hg (combustion by the Schöniger method) and 7.5-500 ng Hg (combustion in the quartz tube). A series of organomercuric standards analysed by this procedure had a standard deviation 3.05%. The described procedure was applied for the determination of mercury in fish, flour, sediments, water, acids and salts.
