Sažetak

Ash whitefly, Siphoninus phillyreae, is widespred across the coast and inland of Dalmatia. It is known as a pest of olive seedlings in nurseries (greenhouses) within Kastela basin. Adult and imature whiteflies feed with the phloem sap, on the lower leaf surface. Infested olive seedlings are recognizable by the presence of numerous and different developmental whitefly stages, placed on the lower leaf surface; the occurance of honey dew and sooty mold; and leaf chlorosis. In order to control this pest, it is recommended: to remove the major sources of infestation (Phillyrea spp. and pomegranate plants) near the nursery; to applicate larger spacing between seedlings; and to moderate fertilization and irrigation. Covering the nursery oppenings with insect proof net prevents the entry of the pest and the posibility of seedlings infestation. After the infestation has been recorded, spraying with mineral oil in a concentration of 1-2% should be applied.
