Sažetak
The pest management practice conducted on sugar beet fields belonged to the state farms located in County of Vukavar Sirmium in the period between 1981 and 1989 was compared with the pest management practice conducted on sugar beet fields belong to agricultural enterprise "Agrotovamik" in the period between 2008 and 2010. In the period between 1981 and 1989 soil pests (mainly wireworms), flea beetles and aphids were controlled. The treatment decision was made according to the pest infestation level. The highest amount of insecticides applied was 2.3 kg of active ingredient/ ha of treated area or 1.64 kg of active ingredient/ ha of sown area. Twenty three active ingredients were applied. In the period between 2008 and 2010, on all sugar beet fields soil pests were controlled by the use of 0.05 to 0.1 kg of active ingredients of neonicotinoid seed treatment insecticides/ha of sown area. The big reduction in amount of used insecticides was recorded. The change in the most abundant pest species was noticed. Comparing to the previous period, flea beetles and aphids were much less abundant while the abundance of sugar beet weevil increased. Due to sugar beet weevil control, additionally the amount of 1-3 kg active ingredient/ha was applied. The high abundance of sugar beet weevil could be related to the climatic changes (warming), the lack of efficacy of neonicotinoid seed treatment insecticides on sugar beet weevil, and the increase in sugar beet acreage in particular area.
