Sažetak

Stigmaeopsis nanjingensis (Ma & Yuan, 1980) (Acari: Tetranychidae) is an oriental mite species, originated from China. The mites live and feed on the underside of bamboo leaves (Phyllostachys sp. i Pseudosasa sp.), protected under the web nests, and are recognizable by the presence of whitish-yellow round and oval spots on the upper side of leaves. The occurrence of the Asiatic mite S. nanjingensis in Europe was first reported in Italy (Pelizzari & Duso, 2009). In Croatia, the species was first detected on the established bamboo plants (Phyllostachys aurea Riviere & C. Riviere) in alive fence in the nursery garden in Pored, in 2011. Mite feeding reduces bamboo leaf areas and consequently culms become thinner and longer. As mite feeding goes on, leaves become yellow and brown, and then fall. Further investigations are needed to define the actual distribution oh this species in Croatia.
