A BRIEF LOOK AT CHINESE PHRASEOLOGY AND AT ITS COMPARISON WITH RUSSIAN PHRASEOLOGY
Xu Gaoyu
Abstract
The Chinese language is very rich in phraseology, which, for the most part, originated from old Chinese folk literature. Calque phrases from other languages are very rare in Chinese. As to the form, Chinese phraseologisms most often contain four elements, expressed by four written Chinese symbols.
In comparison with Russian phraseology these four groups are distinguished by the degree of semantic and formal similarities: 1) phraseologisms which are identical in both languages in meaning and in lexical content, 2) phraseologisms which are completely identical in meaning, but whose lexical contents only partially correspond, 3) phraseologisms which have a similar meaning but differ in lexical content, 4) Chinese phraseologisms which have no corresponding phraseologisms in Russian ·and thus must be translated freely.
