Sažetak
The efficiency of alginates •in reducing radiostrontium absorption from the intestine was evaluated in 6, 16 and 26 week old male rats. They were fed diets with alginate additives (Sodium alginate, Manucol SS/LD/2, 10 g per 100 g of dry food) for 9 days. Calcium-47 and strorutium-85 were added to the drinking water of experimental and control animals during the 6th and 7th day of the experiment. After sacrificing the animals on the 9th day both radioactive isotopes were determined in dissolved mineralised samples of the carcass and urine. All results were expressed as percentage of the applied dose. The results show a statistically significant reduction of radiostrontium retention and absorption in animals of all age groups. The radioactive calcium absorption remained unimpaired. The effect of alginates on strontium absorption was more pronounced in younger animals.
