Sažetak
Analysing one of the novels published in former Yugoslavia in the 1970-ies and 1980-ies, written by a popular trivial stories and novels writer Ana Žube, the paper attempts to outline general contours of the author’s poetics. Starting from a definition of trivial literature within the context of popular culture and questioning of (possible) semantic equation of terms such as romance novel and romance, the novel is primarily read by attempting to apply the pattern of the so called “ideal romance” by an American theoretician Janice Radway. Certain deviations from a set form in which a classic romance novel functions are identified by analysis of the novel, so in that way Žube’s poetics is (re)positioned within the context of the then Croatian and world literary trends: a turn towards trivial genres, feminist poetics and the so called women’s writing.
