Sažetak

A review is given of the morphology, chemical anatomy and the mechanism of asbestos bodies production. Since much controversy existed in the past particularly regarding the origin of the body coaling, various views of early workers are presented in details. While in the past the authors were mainly concerned with the nature of body coating, it seems at present that rather the nature of the central core and thus the specificity of asbestos bodies has been questioned. Illustrations of some typical asbestos bodies from own collection, obtained in routine necropsies of non-exposed people arc presented as seen both with or dinar y light and the phase contrast microscopy.
