Sažetak
Investigations are carried out on the use of the serum transaminase activity test in the diagnosis of potential toxic lesions due to industrial exposure to carbon tetrachloride. The sensitivity of the test is compared with the sensitivity of other liver function tests used in everyday practice. The study is carried out on a group of 24 women workers exposed to carbon tetrachloride in a manufacture of veterinary drugs. The control group consisted of 31 women workers from two textile factories. In the exposed group a slight increase of SGPT (serum glutamic-pyruvic transaminase) activity was observed in several cases (33%). In the control group the SGPT activity was increased in two cases (6.4%). The SGOT (serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase) activity was increased in 3 cases in the exposed group and in 5 cases in the control group. It is assumed that the increase of SGPT activity in the exposed group may indicate initial toxic liver lesions due to carbon tetrachloride. A comparison between the results obtained in the study of transaminase activity and the results of other liver tests confirms the opinion of other authors that transaminase is a more sensitive indicator of acute lesions of liver cells than usually performed liver tests.
