The English element in the Hindi language

Sažetak
The author deals first with the role of English in India since its introduction as the official language in 1835. It is in India both a subject of discussions concerning the question of the official language in general and a linguistic reality with both emotional and practical consequences. The article tries to show the basic types of English lexical and morphological loans in Hindi and the phonetic changes which occur on the words taken from English.
