Sažetak
A case of' severe oedema of the lungs due to nitrous fumes poisoning is presented. The patient, a Female worker engaged in pickling of iron in sulphuric acid, accidentally used nitric acid for cleaning the metal. After initial irritation there was a latent interval of 7 hours followed by cyanosis, tachypnoea, tachycardia and cough with blood-stained sputum. Patchy infiltrations suggestive of pulmonary oedema were demonstrated by X-ray picture. Despite the severe clinical picture the patient recovered completely in four days after being treated with oxygen, antibiotics and cortisone. The possible effect of cortisone is discussed.
