PACS: radiology withoult film

Sažetak

From the very beginning of the radiology, film and paper were media used by the radiologists. Since in other aspects of life many generations of media have changed during the past century, and in the last decade the media was digitalized, this trend has not skirted radiology either. PACS represents modem radiological system in which radiological pictures and data are submitted to the computer system which stores and displays them, and in that way it almost completely replaces media used up to now. The advantages of such system, its long-term cost-effectiveness and quality increase of Radiology department justify the aspiration of modem radiology to introduce PACS to the entire world, as well to Croatia. This article explains the basics of the PACS concept.
