Sažetak
Past music editions of early Croatian music are presented and critically evaluated in the study. Consideration is given to the editions published abroad as well as in Croatia, and major attention is paid to the editions prepared by Croatian musicologists. Music sources for Croatian music history have been published over about the last hundred years in several publishers’ series and under private initiatives, and they are very diverse and uneven in quality. Editions of selected masses from Antico’s anthology Liber quindecim missarum edited by Henry Expert (1898) to the latest edition of symphonies by Luka Sorkočević (2006) are highlighted here. All the analysed editions - from the Spomenici hrvatske muzičke prošlosti, Spomenici hrvatske glazbene prošlosti [Monuments of Croatian Musical Past] series and the editions of the Institute of Musicology of the Zagreb Music Academy to the latest editions of the Music Information Centre - have in common that do not have precisely articulated editing criteria or expressed publishing plans. Still, certain music editions (the Plamenac edition of Lukačić’s motets from 1935, Vidaković’s edition of Jelić’s motets in the Arion primus collection from 1957, K. Kos’ editing of two Sorkočević’s symphonies from 1984, Županović’s transcription of Skjavetić’s motets from 1996) attain the peak of paleographic and publishing achievement, and are compatible with recent international scholarly standards. Those editions provide a reliable foundation for future endeavours in the professional presentation of note sources of early Croatian music.
