IMPORTANCE OF NANOTECHNOLOGY FOR ECONOMY

Sažetak
The contemporary market economy is based
on the application of scientific knowledge and
technological achievements as well as on the
innovations and business efficiency. To create
innovation is to create competitive advantage, thus
providing employment and building the future
of society. Nanoscience and nanotechnology
are fields with highest expectations, because
knowledge and skills within this field can
significantly contribute to the creation of new
technical solutions and new products.
The main drivers of the development of
nanotechnology are population growth and the
desire for the increase in the quality of life, as
well as the increase in the energy and water
consumption and the need for greater security.
More than ever, the economy has a need for
the application of new technology skills. In
the next five years, about two million new job
opportunities will be open for highly educated
people whose knowledge and skills associate
with nanotechnology - in terms of education
and production or in selling products based on
nanotechnology. In the forthcoming period,
Croatian economy as well as R&D institutions
and education system are expected to get
involved in the world trends of further economy
development by application of nanotechnology.
