THE CULTURAL POLICIES OF YOUTH IN THE PLAY DVIJE (THE TWO OF US) BY TENA ŠTIVIČIĆ

Sažetak

In the framework of cultural theory, the paper analyses the concept of youth conceived and represented in the lifestyles of the protagonists of the contemporary Croatian play Dvije (The Two of Us) by Tena Štivičić. Taking into account the theoretical references of cultural, subcultural and post-subcultural studies, the analysis shows that the culture of youth in Croatia is an unstable semantic field. Despite the fact that the hybridity and complexity of the culture of youth in the play Dvije (Two of us) is attributed with resistance, a closer reading of the dramatic text suggests that it cannot be unambiguously determined. The resistance of the youth culture always-already comes from and adjoins the dominant culture which it ostensibly persistently opposes.
