Sažetak

For a long period it seemed that the Scripture held primacy in the Protestant Churches, while tradition has the same role in the Catholic theology. Due to discussions during the last decades the focus shifted. The idea that the word of God and human authorship of biblical texts do not exclude each other asks for criteria how to define the normativity of the Bible. This paper tries to find an answer to these questions by exemplary texts from the Old Testament. It is obvious that Christology plays an important role in the Protestant as well as in the Catholic tradition. The reception history shows the importance of the particular social and cultural context of readers for their understanding of biblical texts. And since the Second Vatican Council Protestants have been learning the importance of the Scripture as basis for Catholic traditions, too. The development in the Protestant as well as in the Catholic tradition allows the possibility of a common struggle for the right understanding of the polyphony of the Bible.
