Sažetak

The significance of the Roman calendar lies in its importance as historical source which contains notions of both religious and everyday activities of the Romans. This text provides a short overview of the development of the Roman calendar, beginning with the establishment of the Roman Empire and ending with the last Julian reform. The stages of development are explained in the first chapters, including the first version, and then Republican as well as Julian whose last modifications were done during the era of the Roman Empire. Also, the text provides the names of months and their changes, the nundinal cycles and specific weeks in the Roman calendar, as well as counting of years. The specific quality of this calendar that is presented in the text are sorts and marks of different days that reflect exactly defined religious, agrarian and other similar activities of the “populi Romani”.
