Abstract

Due to changes in the approach to mental
health care, as well as due to reorganization of psychiatry, the
role of primary care physicians and family doctors has also
undergone substantial changes in the last years. As the first
health professionals who meet the patients with mental disorders,
the primary care physicians and family doctors have
become an indispensable part in mental health care chain,
taking the responsibility for early recognition and treatment of
various mental disorders, especially for mild to moderate
depressive and anxiety disorders. As the drug prescribing professionals,
the primary care physicians and family doctors
have an important role both in early detection of unwanted
side effects and drug interactions, and in promoting the quality
of life of patients with mental disorders.
