Sažetak

Academician Duje Rendic Miocevic delivered the address on behalf of the sponsor of the symposium, the Social Sciences Division of the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts.
After a brief review of the activities of the Institute of Maritime Law, History and Economics since its establishment, he stressed its role in promoting the development of sea-oriented activities in Yugoslavia in the post-war period and also research in the field of maritime law. He also emphasized the important role of the Institute's periodical Comparative Maritime Law and Commerce, being the only journal in Yugoslavia dealing exclusively with maritime law.
Stressing the honour of the Social Sciences Division of YASA to be the sponsor of the symposium, he expressed the conviction that two anniversaries would be new incentive for the future, equally successful, activities of the Institute.
