Die stichwortartig aber umfassend rekonstruierte Biographie des deutschsprachigen jüdischen Ungarn Géza Berger spiegelt in paradigmatischer Weise internationale politische wie kulturelle Konflikte des 19. und frühen 20. Jh.s. Das ruhelose Wandern in Mitteleuropa und die Emigration in die USA erweisen sich vor allem als Folgen der labilen staatlichen Verhältnisse. Als Schauspieler repräsentiert er die theatergeschichtliche Entwicklung an zahlreichen Bühnen großer Städte und in der Provinz. Diese berufliche Aktivität sowie seine journalistischen und literarischen Beiträge befördern und stabilisieren deutschsprachige Kultur im Kronland Kroatien-Slawonien und in der ›German-American Community‹. // The comprehensibly reconstructed biography of Géza Berger, a German-Jewish Hungarian, mirrors international political as well as cultural conflicts in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in a paradigmatic way. His ceaseless wanderings through Central Europe and emigration to the US are consequences of unstable state relations at the time. As an actor, Berger’s case portrays the progression of theatre history on numerous stages in larger cities and in the province. Through his professional activity as well as his journalist and literary contributions he promoted and stabilized German-language culture in the crown land of Slawonia and in the ›German-American Community‹.
