Sažetak

The aim of this study was to examine the intensity, frequency and type of painful experiences in patients with rheumatoid arthritis at the start and after completion of 21 days of physiotherapy. Respondents were asked to evaluate the pain intensity according to the visual analogue scale of pain (VAS) and the type of experienced pain assessed on a modified version of the McGill questionnaire at the beginning and at the end of 21 days of physiotherapy. The test results show that 96.79% of respondents stated painful experiences and the pain assessment on the VAS scale was on average 6.67 ± 2.54. After physical therapy for a period of 21 days, the estimated pain averaged 4.87 ± 68.32 on the VAS scale from 1 to 10 cm. The difference in the intensity of pain experienced at the first examination after the completion of 21 days of physical therapy was statistically significant (p = 0.021) in terms of pain relief after treatment. There was no statistically significant difference in the perception of pain intensity with regard to sex. The most common sites of pain were: hand and wrist joints (86% of respondents), knee (60%), feet and ankle joints (52%), shoulders (39%), cervical spine (33%), elbows (20%) and hips (7%). On the modified version of the McGill questionnaire for the assessment of the types of pain, the most frequent replies given were: exhausting (86%), tiring (95%), pervasive (65%), annoying (83%) and laborious (76%).
