Sažetak
Urinary tract infections are the most frequent
hospital infections. They account about 40% of all
hospital-acquired infections. The main risk factor for their
occurrence is catheter use. 80-90% hospital-acquired bacteriuria
is related to catheterization. Urinary tract infections
are called device-associated infections, and are also preventable
nosocomial infections. Closed drainage system is
a dramatic improvement over open drainage systems in preventing
of these infections. Risk factors that can be influenced
in the prevention of hospital-acquired urinary tract
infections are: duration of catheterization, unproper and non
sterile technic of insertion, drainage system that are used
and mistakes in the use of closed drainage system. Procedures
of insertion and maintaining of urinary catheter as well
as the most frequent mistakes in the use of urinary catheter
are mentioned.
