Sažetak

Patients with COPD are physically less active compared to their healthy peers or patients with other chronic diseases. Even though physical activity does not improve lung function, exercising produces positive physiological and psychological effects. Physical activity decreases the symptoms of shortness of breath, increases functional exercise capacity and improves the quality of life in patients with COPD. It also has a positive effect on comorbidities. Prior assessment and monitoring of each patient during an exercise programme allows for a safe and individually tailored exercise programme. Exercise programmes for COPD patients that take place outside healthcare facilities, e.g. in gyms, homes and online, might be new strategies that will attract a greater number of patients and ensure a longer and more successful implementation of these programmes.
