Sažetak

As a result of their high prevalence, inflammatory rheumatic diseases are a significant burden for patients and the society at large. Besides the immediate damage caused by the chronic disease weighed down by the consequences of the chronic autoimmune inflammation, there are also important and frequent comorbidities, complications and various therapies, including the high costs of pharmacotherapy and nonpharmacologic therapy and aids, absenteeism, presentism, premature mortality and disability. The quality of life and life expectancy are reduced considerably. Promoting physical activity and sports, as well as combating a sedentary lifestyle may have significant effect on primary disease prevention. Regular exercise has been shown to have a positive effect on long-term activity of inflammatory rheumatic diseases, maintenance of remission and improvement of the quality of life, serious comorbidities and consequently the final outcomes. It is important to understand the effects of exercise and physical activity on the mechanisms, course and outcome of inflammatory rheumatic diseases considering the lack of awareness that patients and medical professionals still have about the great importance of regular exercise and physical activity.
