Sažetak
Introduction. Over the last two decades Clostridium difficile infection
(CDI) rates have significiantly increased worldwide with
subsequent increases in morbidity and mortality. CDI disproportionally
affects the elderly due to numerous risk factors including
immunosenescence, frequent comorbidities and increased antibiotic
utilisation. The first CDI outbreak in our hospital reveals
that aging is probably the most important and independent risk
factor for mortallity.
Aim. The aim of this study was to determine predisposible factors
for acquiring this infection among our patients and, furthermore,
in which group of patients the death was more frequent.
Materials and methods. A retrospective obervation analysis was
performed by using the original archive of medical documentation.
For statistical data processing, we have implemented the
Mann-Whitney test, χ2 and Fisher exact test. The level of statistical
importance was defined at 5% (p < 0,005).
Conclusion. The results of analysis of our patients in General
Hospital Zadar have shown that elderly age (older than 60) has been identifed as the most important and independent lethal outcome factor among patients.
