Sažetak
On the basis of the following can be concluded:
1. The functional ability of the cardiovascular system represents a complex of characteristics which depend, not only on the hearth and blood vessels, but also on a number of the factors, the most important being the neurovegetative and endocrine systems.
2. Functional ability, common to all life situations, most probably doesn't exist; a series of specific abilities for different activities and situations is the most probable hypothesis.
3. Testing the cardiovascular system ability relies on the assumption that people differ in their cardiovascular ability and that these differences can be measured.
4. The greatest difference in functional ability of the cardiovascular system during maximal effort exists between nontrained people and trained athletes in specific sports.
5. The greater the loadings, the greater are the differences in the reactions of the cardiovascular system in different people.
6. Maximal oxygen consumption test in running is a reliable and discriminative test. Reliability coefficient of the test is .95. It measures the cardiovascular ability for efforts and differentiaties between trained and nontrained subjects significantly. Its validity coefficient is .85, and predictive values is 54 percents better than by chance.
7. The step test measures the ability of the cardiovascular system to recuperate after submaximal work. Its reliability coefficient is .84. Using this test it could be possible to discriminate significantly between trained and nontrained subjects, but its validity coefficient is .53 and predictive values is only 15 percents better than by chance.
8. The step test and the maximal oxygen consumption test are in correlaion of .15, which shows that they don't measure the same characteristics, although both of them can discriminate between trained and nontrained subjects. It is questionable whether the common functional ability of the cardiovascular system exists.
9. Schneider's and Barach's tests are not reliable and are not discriminative measuring instruments, so the functional ability of the cardiovascular system can not be measured by them.
10. Although the number of subjects was relatively small, the author considers that the tests, which can be used in practice and those which can, with some accuracy, measure some aspects of the functional ability of the cardiovascular system, were determined.
