Post-vaccinal fibrosarcoma in a cat

Sažetak

Post-vaccinal fibrosarcoma is a highly malignant tumour of fibroblast origin. The development of this tumour is associated with malignant alteration of fibroblasts, caused by chronic inflammation. The most common causes of chronic inflammation in these cases are rabies or feline leukaemia virus vaccines. Postvaccinal fibrosarcoma is characterised by rapid and radial growth, which necessitates early excision with broad and deep margins. With tight margins, relapse is common, with the development of a more malignant version of the primary tumour. This requires repeated surgery and causes reduced life quality of the cat, often leading to euthanasia. We present a case of the correct excision of a post-vaccinal fibrosarcoma in a cat, with a short review of current knowledge about aetiology and morphology, and treatment options.
