Sažetak
Occurrence of WNV infection in animals and humans has been recorded during the last few years in Croatia and represents a classical emergence of zoonosis. Spreading of the WNV and recorded human cases surprised even health authorities. As further dissemination of WNV and new clinical cases are expected in the coming seasons, keeping veterinary and medical practitioners in lights of events is a prerequisite for a better control and confinement of the disease. Even more, role of veterinarians beside recognizing horse clinical cases and treating them is a key point in gathering data for discerning the extent of the viral activity fundamental for adequate public health measures to be taken. In this article we give systematic overview of main characteristic of WNV infections in animals and humans as a contribution for improvement of everyday work of veterinary practitioners. Also, information given in this article are necessary for better implementationof surveillance and control methods of WNV, performed by veterinary health professionals, in prevention of disease in humans.
