Sažetak

Due to the modern way of living the prevalence of neck pain is high and
represents a significant public health problem. It is well known that neck pain inversely affects the cervical range of motion. In today´s clinical practice the most frequent method of determining the cervical spine function is measuring its range of motion. Due to the very complicated structure of the cervical spine, the measurement
of its range of motion is the least accurate of all measurements in joints. Therefore, it is a special challenge to find a measuring instrument that meets the important criteria such as: reliability, validity, non-invasiveness, precision and ease of use. Reviewing the literature it was confirmed that there is a great number of measuring instruments by which we can, in a direct, indirect or the most commonly in a combined way, measure cervical range of motion for clinical or research purposes. There is no scientific agreement about which measuring instrument or method should be used due to the differences in the mode of instruments’ operation and also in measurement protocols. According to conducted research, it is considered that the Zebris is currently the best available measuring instrument for cervical range of motion, but based on the clinimetric and technical characteristics and practicality, there is recommendation to use in common clinical practice the single inclinometer or a bit more expensive CROMᵀᴹ instrument.
