EFFECT OF SEED DISINFECTION AND FONGICIDE APPLICATION IN PURPOSE OF PREVENTION FROM DARK ROT DISEASE ON VARAZDIN'S CABBAGE

Sažetak
The Varaždin's cabbage variety is one of the most popular indigenous
varieties of cabbage. Regardless of the time of planting Varaždin's cabbage, there is a large number of harmful organisms that endanger its successful field production. Over the past few years, some plant diseases have almost completely destroyed certain cabbage fields, one of which is black rot of cabbage (Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris). Symptoms are mostly expressed during warm and very humid periods. Phytosanitary surveys have confirmed that infected seedlings are an important factor in occurrence and spread of this disease. The experiment was carried out on seedlings of Varaždin's cabbage, grown from seeds with two different disinfection treatments: seeds exposed to thermotherapy and seeds treated with sodium hydroxide. During the vegetation, foliar protection program was implemented, which included 4 application timings. Foliar protection program was carried out in plantation with seedlings grown from untreated seeds and seedlings grown from seeds treated with thermotherapy. Foliar protection experiment consisted of 6 different treatments and one untreated variant (control). Visual assessment of the percentage of leaf area with symptoms was performed two times for each treatment. After different foliar applications, there was a significant difference between plants grown from untreated seeds and plants obtained from thermotherapy seeds. Foliar treatments reduced the appearance of black rot symptoms.
