Some New Aspects of the Painting ''The Descent of the Holy Spirit'' by Santi di Tito in Dubrovnik

Sažetak
The author reveals some new evidence from the Italian and American sources concerning the painting »The descent of the Holy Spirit« by a Florentine master Santi di Tito, painted by the order of Vice Stjepović-Skočibuha. The first and most significant critic recorded on the painting was in 1584 by Raffaele Borghini in his famous work Il riposo, where he refers to the shippment of Santi di Tito’s »The descent of the Holy Spirit« to Dubrovnik in an almost proverbial manner. (A’ Raugia mando una tavola, in cui have dipinto lo Spirito Santo). The paper further examines the discovery of two Tito’s drawings (Firenza, Uffizi, Gabinetto Disegni e stampe) treating the same subject and suggesting the possible resemblance with the painting at the Dominican Monastery. Finally the author discusses Tito’s style in regard to Vasari’s expression of the same theme at the flank-altar of the S. Croce Church in Florence, dating 1568.
