Sažetak

Ivo Bizar, a writer and bibliophile, was born at Orebić on the Pelješac Peninsula, in 1782. He came from a sailor's family so distinguished in the Dubrovnik merchant marine, that the family was granted Austrian aristocratic degree.
He got classic education in Dubrovnik from where his uncle Roko Bonfiol, the last Dubrovnik consul in Venice, took him there. In Venice and at Tarvisio Ivo Bizar continued his studies. He wrote poems in Italian, became a collector of works of arts, met quite a number of Italian writers and paid a visit to cultural centres and their monuments in North Italy. At his mature age he retired to Dubrovnik in 1817 where he lived to his death in 1833. All that time he was working at literature.
He knew plastic arts, their history and contemporary works of the neo-classicistic sculptures and architecture. Hare are published his poems »L'architettura«, those dedicated to Antonio Canova, the sculptor, as well as »Dissertazione accademica letta nel Veneto Ateneo il giorno 6. agosto 1812«. All these works are deposited in the Historical Institute of the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts in Dubrovnik. From these manuscripts his knowledge of plastic arts and his attitude towards them could be seen. His attitude was the same as that of his contemporaries.
Bizar formed a library of valuable book, now deposited in the same Institute, among which are those dealing with the history of art. Besides he had a collection of gems, copper engravings, pictures and various works of arts. He kept correspondence with Leopold Cicognari, the leading historian of arts in Venice and with Tomaso Puccini, the director of Gallery in Florence, to whom he dedicated a special poem. He had engravings made by the painters Francesco Novelli and Giuseppe Rosaspina. His portrait was drawn by the painter Natale Schiavon. The treatise on ressurection by Atenagora, the philosopher, translated by Gaspare Gozzi, was printed at his own expense. He was a friend of Angelo Dalmistro, the expert in Greek and Roman poets, who wrote an epic on Bizar's library.
Ivo Bizar, is an erudite who knew fine arts better than any of the Dubrovnik poets from the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century. In this article the author speaks about that.
