Sažetak

The relationship between situational-motoric factors and evaluations of performance in basketball was investigated by means of quasicanonical (OCR) and quasiregressional (SRA) analysis. The analysis were based on estimate of factor values determined on the basis of the situational-motoric abilities of basketball players established by Blašković MIlan and Matković (1982) on a group of 53 students of the Faculty of Physical Education, selected according to their grades in the practical basketball examination and according to their participation in official basketball matches, and one evaluations of the performance in basketball of 50 subjects from the same group.
The predicative set was made up of the following situational-motoric factors:
-precision of passing (PRECDO)
-precision of shooting (PRECUB)
-efficacy of movement with and without the ball (EFKRET)
-ball-throwing power (SNAIZB).
The criterial set of variables in quasicannonical analysis, and the individual criterial variables in the quasiregressional anallysis, were the evaluations of six component and independent judges who observed each player over four matches and awarded points for:
1. technique (TEHNIK)
2. attack (NAPAD)
3. defence (OBRANA)
4. creativity (STVARA)
5. responsablity (ODGOVO)
6. commitment (ANGAZI)
7. behaviour (PONASA)
8. overall performance (OCOCJ).
In confirming the reliability of judges' evaluations it was established that the most reliable are evaluations of techniques, overall performance, creativity and efficacy of the player in attack and defence. Border values were shown by evaluations of responsibility, while those of commitment and behavior showed a low reliability.
The quasicanonical analysis gave a high correlation for one significant factor (.83) in which the dimension isolated from the set of situational-motoric factors behaved, in effect, like a measure of basketball motoric. The highest projections in this space were found for precision for shooting, manipulation with the ball and efficacy of movement with and without the ball. A somewhat weaker correlation with this canonical dimension was found for precision of passing and ball-throwing power.
The greatest contribution to the definition of this dimension in the criterial space is given by evaluations of overall performance, technique of attack and defence and creativity. Lower projections on this canonical dimension were found for evaluations of commitment and, especially, behaviour.
The regression analysis (SRA) gave essentially the same results. The greatest correlation was between the evaluation of overall performance ad the set of latent dimensions (.83). Almost equally high coefficients of multiple correlation (.81) with the set of predictive variableswere founf for evaluations of technique, attack, defence and creativity. Lower values were obtained for evaluations of commitment and especially of beahiour.
Partial contributions in individual regression analyses were given by precision of shooting, manipulation with the ball and efficacy of movement with and without the ball, which is an agreement with the theoretical model of modern basketball. However, this model also includes precision of passing, and this had a somewhat lower correlation with the criteria in the present analysis. It is assumed that the use of better defined measures for estimation of precision of passing would better define this dimension and thus increase its correlation with performance.
Both analyses indicate a high correlation of both analyzed spaces. At the same time the results show that in future, in order to arrive at a simpler treatment of the problem, it might be advisable to use a unidimensional criterion, i. e. that the evaluation of overall performance be used as the criterial variable.
