Synthesis of Azulenoids from Troponoids

Sažetak
Azulenes have drawn the interest of many a chemist in the past because of its deep color but their structure remained concealed for a long time. Professor Ruzicka, the originator of fundamental studies on polyterpenoid and elaborator of this system, and his school have long carried out studies on sesquiterpenes which are closely related to azulene and they pointed out the fact that the structure of azulenes is a special bicyclic system different from the benzenoid ring.
