Abstract

S ince the language of M. Krleža, one of the greatest Croatian writers, has not been properly
investigatcd, impressionistic judgements range from its rejection as very bad to its acceptance as
a fine example of contemporary Croatian. The present author takes the view that a good writer
cannot write a bad language, and goes on to show that Krleža was a great writer also on the linguistic
plane.
