Factor analysis of some situational speed tests of football players

Sažetak
The basic aim of this study was to establish the latent structures of measuring instruments for assessment of moving speed of football players. The study was carried out on a selected sample of 68 football players in the Slovenian football zone, aged 18 to 28.
21 measuring instruments were applied to assess the hypothetical of primary and situational moving speed of football players.
The analysis of obtained results abandoned the hypothesis that factors of primary and situational speed existed, while through the method of major components and the application of the PB criterion as well as the rotation the oblimin position, the following latent dimensions were extracted:
- the explosive strength factor
- the factor of speed of change in direction of movement
- the factor of speed in carrying out complex motor tasks
- the factor of movement frequency
The results of the study may be used in football practice since measuring instruments are easily carried out in the training process and in selection of adult football players in similar competitive ranks, while the level of evolvement of individual dimensions may indicate the direction in programming and planning in football training.
