Sažetak
The objective of this research was to establish the principles of development of the starting acceleration of top sprinters of both genders. The starting acceleration, as one of the basic sprinting abilities, was defined by the 30-metre-run. To record the data, we have used a new technology in measurement, which has been developed by the associates of the Laboratory for Biomechanics at the Institute for Sport in Ljubljana and the Department for Measurement Technology at the Metallurgic Institute in Ljubljana. The speed of the runner's center of gravity has been recorded by the ACCELEROMETER. The parameters of start action have been established by means of a special starting block that had an installed measuring probe.
We have used the correlation analysis in order to show the correlation of parameters of starting acceleration and the criterion result. The largest differences in start action between genders appear because of the size of the force developed on the starting block, while the differences in reaction times are minimal. Between genders, the largest differences in the dynamics of starting acceleration appear in the first three meters. This is the result of different mechanisms that develop considerable strength. The efficiency level of the starting acceleration of both men and women sprinters is connected, to the maximum extent, with the parameters of the strength developed on the starting block, to the position of the starting blocks and to the motor reaction speed. The most significant indicators of starting reaction are the relative take-off force and relative take-off impulse.
