FREEDOM AND RESPONSIBILITY, FOUNDATION OF CHRISTIAN BEHAVIOUR

Sažetak
Faced by the challenges of relativisation of ever y single
confessional faith and its corresponding morality, as mere symbols
of one in itself united religious act, the author discusses the
topic “Freedom and responsibility as a foundation of Christian
behaviour ”, i.e. searches for the specifics of Christian morality
and typical Christian responsibility that is based on it. In order
to meet the requirement of the task, in the first part the author
analyses theological definition of freedom, starting from its three

soteriological-ecclesiastic. Having derived the idea of freedom as
“released freedom”, in the second part the author deals with the
issue of typically Christian activity and defines it in the following way:
1. For a Christian, “actus humanus” is an eschatological symbol, 2.
Christian activity is theologically founded subjective (conscious) and
objective moral norm (law), as well as cognition that for a Christian
even the required competence for work is a theological category. In
the third part, analysing the issue of typically Christian activity in
a responsible freedom, i.e. analysing the typically Christian idea of
responsibility, the author broadly defines it in classic coordinates: in
relation toward God, toward one’s own self and toward neighbour,
provided that the responsibility towards one’s own self is based on
the category of human dignity and real abilities of one’s own entire
development, while the responsibility toward neighbour should be
generally seen in three areas: religious-spiritual, social-political and
ecological. Conclusion of this work is that there is typical Christian
morality, and, consequently, typical Christian responsibility, but also
that “Christian responsibility” and “responsibility of Christians” is
not the same thing. Therefore, one shouldn’t exclude that just that
unchristian “life of Christians” serves as a proof to those who claim
that not even in the field of morality is Christianity something special
with regard to other world-views and religions.
