Sažetak

Aim. To evaluate perinatal outcome of preterm infants in Karlovac maternity ward during 2005 year. Materials and methods. Among 972 liveborns there were 40 premature infants (4.12%). Results. 77.5% of premature ¬infants were born by vaginal delivery, and 22.5% by caesarean section. Anthropometrical measures of birth weight, birth length and head circumference were in normal centile range by gestational age. Apgar score less than 4 in the first minute were observed in 15% of premature infants, but in the fifth minute in 10%. In tertiary care centres have been transferred 30% of prematures, 70% were managed in Karlovac maternity ward. The mean gestational age of transferred premature infants was 33 weeks, in Karlovac maternity ward 35 weeks. The most number of premature infants were transferred because of respiratory distress syndrome (50%), respiratory failure (33.33%), and in one case of anal atresia and diabetic foetopathia (8.33%). The most common causes of perinatal morbidity were hyperbilirubinaemia (65%), perinatal infection (57.5%) followed by peri-intraventricular haemorrhage (42.5%) and respiratory distress syndrome in 25% of them. Conclusion. The data of perinatal outcome in premature infants can be used for measuring, evaluation, planning and improve their perinatal care. It is necessary to increase the number of prenatal »in utero« transfer to tertiary care centres, to improve antenatal care in high risk pregnancies and quality of management of all disturbances related to pregnancy.
