Sažetak
The banknote issued by the Ministry of Finance of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and
Slovenes of 1000 dinars/4000 crowns from 1920 is one of the most collectible banknotes,
and only the best numismatic collections have it. The 1000 dinars/4000 crowns banknote
is rarely offered for sale on the collectors’ market, and when it is, it fetches a substantial
price, and due to its extreme rarity, not only when it is in top quality. It is also interesting
for European and world numismatists. As the 1000 dinars/4000 crowns banknote is not
one of the dinar/crown banknotes from 1919 and 1920 that have been forged on many
occasions, counterfeits of this banknote are extremely rare.
The existence of counterfeit banknotes issued by the Ministry of Finance of the
Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes of 1000 dinars/4000 crowns from 1920 is
mentioned in monetary, criminological and numismatic literature. In addition, pictures
and descriptions of the 1000 dinars/4000 crowns forgeries have been published in
numismatic literature. This article points out inaccuracies and weaknesses in earlier
accounts, and on the basis of archival documents it gives descriptions of the features
of this forgery and the differences between the real and forged banknotes of 1000
dinars/4000 crowns from 1920.
