Squamous cell carcinoma in dogs

Sažetak

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a relatively common malignant neoplasia of the canine skin, digits and oral cavity. Older dogs are at higher risk, especially those exposed to long-term ultraviolet radiation, and a lack of skin pigment and a very sparse hair coat may contribute to its development, at least when it comes to cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. The gross appearance of the tumor may vary, so histopathological examination is necessary to confirm the diagnosis. The article presents a brief review of the epidemiology, etiopathogenesis, and the gross and microscopic appearance of this tumor on the skin and oral mucosa in dogs.
