Sažetak

Hydatidosis is a parasitic disease caused by the larval stage of the Echinococcus granulosus tapeworm. The definitive hosts of this tapeworm are carnivores, while the intermediate hosts are herbivores and omnivores in whose internal organs hydatid cysts develop. The cysts are surrounded by an adventitial layer made up of a connective tissue capsule produced by the intermediate host. During postmortem examination of wild boar organs, we observed a pathological formation on the liver, which was sampled and stored in 10% buffered formalin, and a routine pathohistological examination was performed. The sample was additionally dyed with connective tissue stains: Mallory’s aniline blue collagen stain, Verhoeff-Van Gieson stain,
and stain for reticular fibers. Histopathological examination revealed multifocal hydatid tissue cysts within the hepatic parenchyma. They were surrounded by a variably sized fibrovascular capsule consisting of granulation tissue, infiltrated with moderate numbers of lymphoplasmacytic cells and fewer eosinophils. The hydatid cysts consisted of laminated hyaline and proteinaceous membrane, and the internal aspect of the membrane had numerous basophilic calcareous bodies. Budding from the internal germinal epithelium there were multiple brood capsules with multiple protoscolices, which consisted of a tegument, spongy parenchyma, calcareous corpuscles, a sucker, and a rostellum armed with hooks. Additional histological staining techniques were used to examine the structure of the hydatid cyst wall in which collagen, elastic and reticular fibers were identified.
